Obi-Wan Kenobi, which stars Ewan McGregor, opens with a major Star Wars death.

After years of anticipation, the new Star Wars event series Obi-Wan Kenobi has now debuted on Disney Plus. The series, which marks the return of Ewan McGregor to the franchise, further explores the character’s life 10 years after the events of Revenge of the Sith. With the first two episodes available to stream, some fans were taken by surprise by the fate of a certain character.

Obi-Wan Kenobi SPOILER ALERT

In “Part II’ of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Reva Sevander/The Third Sister (Moses Ingram) taunts the former Jedi Master (Ewan McGregor) with the revelation that his former student and friend, Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) is still alive, and is in fact Darth Vader. To his terror, he runs off, as Reva is encountered by the Grand Inquisitor (Rupert Friend), who attempts to take Kenobi into his own custody, only for Reva to stab him, seemingly killing him.

However, the supposed death of this character may seem a bit off. For one, the event series takes place five years before the events of the animated series, Star Wars Rebels. The Grand Inquisitor is featured in that series, and doesn’t die until the first Season Finale. It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the remainder of this series, and whether or not we will see Ewan McGregor‘s beloved Ben Kenobi take him, Reva, and the Fifth Brother (Sung Kang) in a Lightsaber duel, along with his highly-anticipated rematch with Anakin Skywalker, who is shown in a bacta tank in the final shot of “Part II.”

Directed by Deborah Chow from Joby Harold’s scripts, the series stars Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie. The series will also see the return of legendary Star Wars composer John Williams, who scored a theme.
