Grant Morrison didn't see this side in Ezra Miller when working with them.

Comic book writer Grant Morrison reacts to the ongoing controversies of The Flash star Ezra Miller.

Warner Bros. Discovery is certainly in a tough spot right now. Although the studio certainly has high hopes for their upcoming DC Extended Universe film The Flash, there seems to be one major problem that clouds the film: Ezra Miller, and their ongoing controversies. The actor, who has portrayed Barry Allen in the DCEU since Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has been subject to two arrests in Hawaii in 2022, and is also accused of grooming and harassment among other issues. All of this is certainly unsettling to many, and a previous collaborator with Miller, Grant Morrison, has responded to the actor’s controversies.

Grant Morrison previously worked with Ezra Miller on a draft of a script for The Flash, which had been in development hell for quite some time. In an interview with Rolling Stone, the comic book writer reacted Miller’s legal and personal issues that have been on public display for quite some time:

I know they’ve had these problems. I haven’t spoken to them for a while, and the last time I spoke was long, long before this. All I can say is that it’s just not the person I know.  I’ve heard stories just like everyone else. I just don’t know. Ezra cut off contact from pretty much everyone for a while. It’s not the person they were. They weren’t aggressive in any way.  I just thought Ezra was a super-intelligent kid with so many talents. So all I can say is that I didn’t see that side in any way with them.

An uncertain DCEU Future For Ezra Miller.

Grant Morrison’s reaction is yet another interesting response from someone who has worked closely with The Flash star Ezra Miller. Music collaborators have also accused the actor of stealing their work, and publishing it without permission.

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO Victor Zaslav has some ambitious plans to overhaul DC, and given that he has inherited the PR nightmare that is Miller’s ongoing legal issues, it leads to some big questions regarding how to handle the release of The Flash. The film looks to be launching a slew of new additions to the DCEU, including the reintroduction of Michael Keaton as Batman and newcomer Sasha Calle as Supergirl.

At this time, Warner Bros. Discovery reportedly looks to move on from Ezra Miller as The Flash after their standalone movie is released, regardless of whether or not more controversies arise related to the actor. Either way, the journey to this film’s release is going to be interesting to follow.

Directed by Andy Muschietti from a script written by Birds of Prey scribe Christina Hodson, The Flash is inspired by the Flashpoint comic book storyline, which followed Barry Allen as he navigated an altered DC Universe. Written by Geoff Johns and penciled by Andy Kuber, Flashpoint radically altered the status of the DC Comics universe and led to the launch of the New 52 titles.

In addition to Ezra Miller, The Flash also features Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck as two separate versions of Batman, Ron Livingston as Henry Allen, Maribel Verdú as Nora Allen, Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Antje Traue as Faora-Ul and Sasha Calle as Supergirl. Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Rudy Mancuso, and Luke Brandon Field are also on board in undisclosed roles.

The Flash is currently due to open on June 23, 2023. Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding the future of Ezra Miller in the DCEU as well as more content from Grant Morrison, and subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
