Warner Bros. has allegedly canceled plans for an HBO Max series that would have featured Ezra Miller as the Flash in the wake of controversies surrounding the actor.

Ezra Miller is due to appear in the DC movie The Flash next year, reprising the role they previously played in Justice League and other DCEU projects. However, over the last few months, Miller has been embroiled in a spate of legal troubles. After they were arrested twice in Hawaii following violent incidents, they started evading authorities trying to serve them a protection order while details emerged of another protection order against Miller granted to a 12-year-old and their mother.

Most recently, the Flash and Fantastic Beasts actor has been accused of child endangerment over unsafe conditions on their Vermont farm, where they are currently hosting a mother and young children.

Warner Bros. Cancels An Ezra Miller Project

While the future of The Flash, which has already wrapped production and stars Ezra Miller as multiple versions of the title character, is currently unclear, reports have indicated Warner Bros. is unlikely to work with Miller on any new projects. It’s not surprising then that an HBO Max series starring Miller as the Flash appears to have been canceled.

Caroline Kwan, an actress who has previously appeared in Lucifer and The End of Us, claimed that a project featuring Ezra Miller as Barry Allen had been canceled in a now-deleted tweet. Kwan claimed the project was being developed by a friend of hers and had been canceled because of Miller’s involvement. It seems likely the project referenced was an HBO Max series.

While this is unconfirmed and the tweet has now been deleted, if true, Ezra Miller’s role must have been substantial enough that the series could not go ahead without them. It seems unlikely that this would have been a Flash series – the character is already appearing, played by Grant Gustin, in his own series on The CW – but it could have been a project that involved Miller’s Barry Allen in an integral supporting role.

Directed by Andy Muschietti from a script written by Birds of Prey scribe Christina Hodson, The Flash is inspired by the Flashpoint comic book storyline, which followed Barry Allen as he navigated an altered DC Universe. Written by Geoff Johns and penciled by Andy Kuber, Flashpoint radically altered the status of the DC Comics universe and led to the launch of the New 52 titles.

In addition to Ezra Miller, The Flash also features Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck as two separate versions of Batman, Ron Livingston as Henry Allen, Maribel Verdú as Nora Allen, Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Antje Traue as Faora-Ul and Sasha Calle as Supergirl. Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Rudy Mancuso, and Luke Brandon Field are also on board in undisclosed roles.

The Flash is currently due to open on June 23, 2023. Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding the future of Ezra Miller in the DCEU, and subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
