When the cast of Avengers: Doomsday was initially announced, there were a lot of big names missing. Perhaps the most shocking not confirmed to return was Famke Janssen, who played Jean Grey in the original X-Men films. Given how integral the character is to those films, and the franchise as a whole, it was surprising that her name wasn’t among those announced.
Many people still believe that, although the actress hasn’t been confirmed to return, that Jean Grey will still appear in Avengers: Doomsday. Given the ethereal nature of her powers, the prevailing belief is that actors like Famke Janssen and Halle Berry (who played Storm) weren’t announced since there was no way they could have been physically spotted during production.
Famke Janssen Speaks On Potential Return As Jean Grey
Famke Janssen actually spoke about this wave of speculation in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly. The actress remarked that she’s shocked her time as Jean Grey keeps getting brought up in interviews. Sadly, she also admits that she hasn’t been asked to return to the role- in Avengers: Doomsday or otherwise.
“Every time I do an interview, it’s mentioned. It’s interesting. I didn’t realize that was such a big part. Every interview I do, that will come up, and of everything I say, that is going to be the only thing that’s gonna be printed.” She states before answering “[I’ve] Never [been asked to return]. Never ever.”
Of course, Famke Janssen wouldn’t be the first person to lie about making their return in a Marvel project. With how many actors are set to reprise their roles in Avengers: Doomsday, there’s truly no knowing who is telling the truth. Though it’s certain some fans would be ecstatic to see Jean Grey once more on the silver screen!
