‘Fantastic Beasts’ Actress Claudia Kim Confirms Role As Nagini

Fantastic Beasts The Crimes of Grindelwald Claudia Kim Nagini Harry Potter

Briefly in the new and final trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, you’ll notice Claudia Kim transform into a snake. A very familiar snake, in fact. If you’re familiar with Harry Potter lore, you’ll remember that Voldemort had a trusty serpent and Holocrux by the name of Nagini. Up until now, there’d been speculation as to who Claudia would be playing in the Fantastic Beasts sequel, but now there’s concrete confirmation that she will be making her grand debut as Nagini in the Harry Potter world with the new Fantastic Beasts sequel.

In The Crimes of Grindelwald, Claudia Kim’s Nagrini is a member of the Circus Arcanus traveling circus and puts on a show for the muggles. Long before she ends up taking the life of Snape, Nagini is merely a performer, and Claudia Kim said she’s interested in the Fantastic Beasts film exploring this side of character. She explained as much during an interview with Entertainment Weekly:

“It will be so interesting to see another side of Nagini. You’ve only seen her as a Horcrux. In this, she’s a wonderful and vulnerable woman who wants to live. She wants to stay a human being and I think that’s a wonderful contrast to the character.”

Claudia Kim also revealed that during the time in which the Fantastic Beasts sequel is set, Nagini can transform at will from human to serpent, but due to blood curse, the performer is perfectly aware that she will indeed permanently become a snake, so it’s a sort of race against the clock:

“She does feel sometimes it’s not controllable. She is bound to [permanently] transform at some point to a beast so she feels this pressure that the clock is ticking. She has powers that are yet to be explored. I can’t confirm she has powers like wizards have. And she doesn’t have a wand.”

In addition to this, Claudia Kim has kept up with fan theories and speculation in regards to the new Fantastic Beasts film and her character, but she’s not going to spoil anything for anybody. Better they be surprised when the film hits cinemas later this year:

“I’ve seen so many videos and fan theories on YouTube. Everyone is so good at analyzing every element there is. I’ve been very careful and aware that I should not spoil it for anybody. But I’ve been dying to say something.”
