Avengers: Doomsday is taking a tour across the multiverse! A key location from The Fantastic Four: First Steps is confirmed to return in the film.
There’s been a lot of questions about the exact role the Fantastic Four will play in Avengers: Doomsday. Despite the team being so closely tied to the villain Doctor Doom, they are freshman entities in the MCU. Their film, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, isn’t even out at the time of writing. This has left many fans to believe that the team won’t be much more than a cameo.
However, it seems as though the team may be playing a much larger role than expected. Kevin Feige recently did a round of interviews talking about the current state of Marvel Studios. During one chat with ComicBook.com, the director revealed that the Fantastic Four’s Baxter Building will be a key location in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday film.
“Only speaking to the one we’re working on now, shooting now, for people who know the comics and know the word Incursions, those are universes coming together. We will see this world that we’ve introduced [in The Fantastic Four: First Steps]. We’re shooting on all the same sets that we built for Fantastic Four, and it is very fun.”
“I would say the now iconic Baxter Building living room and kitchen where we saw the Four get to know each other in this movie, let’s say there are a lot more people in that kitchen in Avengers, and it’s fun to literally see people coming into each other’s homes, which is pretty awesome,”
The Fantastic Four’s Role In Avengers: Doomsday
This seems to confirm recent reports that Reed Richards will be the leader of the Avengers following his debut in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Though perhaps the most interesting part about the Baxter Building appearing in Avengers: Doomsday is that it debunks a popular fan theory. Namely, that the First Family seeks refuge in the Sacred Timeline after their own universe is destroyed.
The Baxter Building surviving The Fantastic Four: First Steps suggests that the entire universe will live on through the events of Avengers: Doomsday. This raises new questions as to why the Fantastic Four would be taking a voyage to another universe if not to try to find a new home. Luckily, it’s one fans will have an answer to soon, as the film is set to release in just a few days.
