The MCU may have a second Fantastic Four on their way! Kate Mara speaks on her potential return as Sue Storm from the failed 2015 reboot.
It seems as though every actor is getting a chance to redeem themselves in the MCU. From Kelsey Grammer to Hugh Jackman, the end of the Multiverse Saga seems to be a way for old actors to say goodbye to their iconic heroes before they get hit with the reboot stick. Which has left many to wonder if the cast of the 2015 Fantastic Four film, better known as Fant4stic, may get a chance to redeem themselves in the eyes of the public.
Kate Mara, who played Sue Storm in Fantastic Four, was actually asked about this during a recent appearance at South By South West, an annual film festival taking place in Texas. While it seemed that the actor was all-in on joining the MCU if she ever got the chance, it seems as though the studio never gave her a call when planning the reboot’s role in the Multiverse Saga.
“God, I really wish that we were approached,” Mara told CBR. “I’m just excited for my kids to get older, so that they can watch the Fantastic Four movie that me and Jamie [Bell] made, because they can see their parents in it. That’s pretty cool.”
Kate Mara Reflects On Fant4stic Reboot
While it’s a shame that Fantastic Four won’t be able to be redeemed through the MCU, it seems as though not everyone has the worst opinions of it. In fact, Kate Mara seems to look back fondly at her time playing Sue Storm in the ill-fated reboot. Even though Fant4stic itself was a flop, it was a chance for her to live in the world and experience something new.
“I don’t have anything negative to say about it,” Mara explained in the same chat. “Experience is experience, and it’s cool to be in those worlds, you know?”
Sadly, for as much of a comeback story it would be to see Kate Mara reprise her role as Sue Storm or see Miles Teller come back as The Maker, not everything can be a redemption story. For every Hugh Jackman taking a victory lap in the MCU, there’ll be a 2005’s Man-Thing left in the dust. So even if Fantastic Four is left in the past, fans could at least cherish what could have been with the reboot.
