Could the failed Fantastic Four reboot be redeemed? Jamie Bell and Kate Mara give their thoughts on a potential return in the form of a Marvel Cinematic Universe cameo.
Fantastic Four, better known as Fant4stic, will go down in history as perhaps the worst-received reboot of all time. It’s a film that almost completely killed any hope for Marvel’s First Family to be redeemed on the big screen until the MCU scooped up the rights and started production on its own take on the iconic super team.
The MCU is also in an era of bringing back old heroes. From Hugh Jackman to Tobey Maguire, Marvel is going through a period of reflection. This has left some to wonder if that reflection will extend to the Fantastic Four, potentially giving them a short cameo to at least acknowledge their existence.
Could The Fant4Stic Cast Join The MCU?
Jamie Bell, who played Ben Grimm in the film, and Kate Mara, who played Sue Storm, recently sat down for an interview with Variety. Their ill-fated Fantastic Four reboot was obviously a point of discussion. When asked if either would be open to returning in the MCU, Bell admitted that it’s not likely, even if it could be fun.
“It doesn’t feel like a reboot to me because to reboot something it had to have been something. Unfortunately, our film doesn’t exist in any particular canon,” Bell explained. “It does exist in one particular canon, which is the not very good canon…Maybe we can try to enter through some multiverse door. But when they see us, they quickly close the door.”
It’s good to hear that Jamie Bell and Kate Mara are at least in good spirits about their flop of a reboot. While it’s not likely anyone from the Fantastic Four will return in the MCU outside of a quick cameo where they get killed off, they still serve as an important piece in Marvel’s history. Just not a very pretty piece.
