One of the spiciest topics in modern discourse about the MCU is Robert Downey Jr. being cast as Doctor Doom. It’s a choice only made more controversial by the fact that Marvel’s First Family is finally headed back to the big screen with The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and their greatest villain is now being used to represent the Avengers and their multiverse saga.
However, it seems not everyone is so doom and gloom at the announcement. When speaking at Megacon in Orlando this past weekend, Joseph Quinn reflected on seeing Robert Downey Jr. take off the mask as Doctor Doom at San Diego Comic-Con. While he didn’t reveal if the actor would appear in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, he did reveal his excitement to see the actor tackle such an iconic villain in the MCU.
“I was there. All these masks come out and his mask came off. There were 3,000 people in the audience. The roof blew off. He’s incredible and what he does with this will be equally brilliant.”
Joseph Quinn Is Excited To Join The MCU
Joseph Quinn isn’t just excited to see Robert Downey Jr. make his return in the new role of Doctor Doom. He’s excited to take a crack at film’s biggest franchise himself in The Fantastic Four: The First Steps. When asked about what excites him most about his upcoming role in the blockbuster, Quinn revealed that the theme of “Family” sits at the core of the film.
“The family dynamic. It’s Marvel’s first family and we really want to get it right. I think the cast were really choice actors. I’m so excited. We want to establish this dysfunctional, caring family.”
Given the team is often billed as Marvel’s First Family, it makes sense that the family aspect would stand front-and-center in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. While many fans were skeptical about Joseph Quinn joining the MCU, his presence in the trailer won over even the most cynical of MCU fans. Perhaps once the first footage of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom drops, fans will have a similar change of heart!
