Fast X serves as the first part of the finale to the Fast and Furious franchise. During a recent interview, Fast X director Louis Letterier opened up about the surprise role Gal Gadot’s character Gisele Yashar had in the film.

Readers beware! The article below contains spoilers for Fast X and the rest of the Fast and Furious franchise.

Fans have long known Gal Gadot as Gisele Yashar ever since she first appeared in the fourth film Fast & Furious. She would go on to appear as a main character in both Fast Five and Fast 6 before seemingly falling to her death. Even though coming back from the dead is more common in Fast and Furious than a zombie film, many fans saw this as an end to Gadot’s time with the franchise due to her commitments to being Wonder Woman.

The end of Fast X shocked many fans when Gal Gadot’s Gisele Yashar was revealed to be alive, serving as an integral part of the story by saving Michelle Rodriguez’s Letty Ortiz and Charlize Theron’s Cipher during a prison escape. Director Louis Letterier opened up about this return with The Hollywood Reporter, saying he gave Gadot a “big hug” after filming:

“I was on the set with her,” Letterier confirmed “I was lucky enough to see Gal Gadot and give her a big hug and a thank you at the end of the shoot. That was a highlight for me.  I was lucky enough to direct one commercial with her, and I saw the power of Gal Gadot for 30 seconds. So, now that I get to not only work with her but also bring back Gisele into the franchise, I’m the happiest fan in the world. “

The return of Gal Gadot as Gisele Yashar wasn’t the only surprise for fans in Fast X. The film features the return of almost every major character in the franchise, including another one fans thought they’d never see again in a post-credits scene. While fans may be sad to see the Fast and Furious saga come to an end, they’ll never forget the family they made along the way.
