A new behind the scenes photo has given us our first look at Richard Madden taking flight as Ikaris in Marvel’s upcoming film, The Eternals.
The announcement of The Eternals at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con wasn’t exactly a shock to anyone but it’s certainly not one of Marvel’s better-known properties. The Eternals comic series was originally created by Jack Kirby in 1976 as a kind of answer to Jack Kirby’s own New Gods series at DC Comics. It ultimately didn’t catch on as well as The New Gods and for many Marvel fans, the announcement of The Eternals at SDCC was, in all likelihood, their first introduction to the franchise. In addition, the film will also likely be their introduction to Ikaris, played by Richard Madden.
In the comics, Richard Madden’s character, Ikaris, is one of the Eternals, having first appeared in the series’ first issue. Born over 20,000 years ago in modern-day Serbia, Ikaris’ true name is unknown, choosing this name due to a connection to the Greek mythological figure Icarus. Since debuting in Eternals #1, he has served as one of the main protagonists of The Eternals with various encounters with other heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Thanks to a new set photo, we now have our first look at Richard Madden as Ikaris in The Eternals. Ikaris notably looks different then he does in the comics, owing to Richard Madden’s dark hair. You can see the full images of Richard Madden as Ikaris in The Eternals below:
