Does Jonathan Majors have bad blood with the Marvel Cinematic Universe? The Kang star reacts to Robert Downey Jr. replacing him as the new big bad in Avengers: Doomsday!
One of the biggest announcements in recent years for the MCU was the reveal that Robert Downey Jr. would be taking on the role of Doctor Doom. This would come complete with his own starring movie in Avengers: Doomsday, which would serve to replace Avengers: Kang Dynasty following Jonathan Majors being fired by Marvel.
For those who don’t recall, Jonathan Majors was let go from the role of Kang last year after being found guilty on charges of assault and harassment. This led to Marvel dropping Avengers: Kang Dynasty from their slate. While some fans thought they would just recast the villain, it seems the studio went in an entirely different direction by getting Robert Downey Jr. to play Doctor Doom.
Jonathan Majors Speaks On Kang’s Exodus
It seems Jonathan Majors himself isn’t too happy with the decision to bring Robert Downey Jr. in as Doctor Doom for Avengers: Doomsday. When asked about how he felt in getting replaced as the MCU’s next big bad, the former Avengers: Kang Dynasty star admitted that he’s heartbroken, but would still be open to reprising his role as Kang in the future.
“Yeah, heartbroken. Come on, yeah, of course. I love him. I love Kang.” Majors explained to TMZ before being asked of his return “Hell yeah…If that’s what the fans want, if that’s what Marvel wants, let’s roll.”
Given Marvel has clearly shifted the MCU’s focus with Avengers: Doomsday, it’s not likely that Jonathan Majors would ever be asked to return as Kang. While it’s a shame that fans will never see the original Avengers: Kang Dynasty storyline play out with another actor, Robert Downey Jr. playing Doctor Doom is a timeline too good to pass up!
Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters in May 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
