It seems that Fox once had big plans for its properties as the studio was apparently planning its own Civil War film between the X-Men and The Fantastic Four.
According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Fox was considering its own variation of the Civil War premise back in 2010. Earlier this week, one of the writers of X-Men: First Class revealed that, at one point, there were big plans to do a massive crossover between the X-Men, the Fantastic Four and other Fox-owned characters like Deadpool and Daredevil. But now it seems that those plans may have been more ambitious then we may have ever expected.
According to the report, the planned film would have resulted in an all-out Civil War between the X-Men and The Fantastic Four. It would have featured Johnny Storm blowing a hole in Manhatten, resulting in a superhero registration act which eventually leads the X-Men and Fantastic Four into conflict. The fight would notably include Reed Richards cutting off Wolverine’s arms and an after credits scene that teased at a Skrull invasion.
Sadly it seems that Fox passed on the idea with several of these properties ending back in Marvel’s hands. Any plans of a crossover seemed to have been permanently crushed by the critical and box office reception of the 2015 Josh Trank-directed Fantastic Four reboot. It’s a shame how these things sometimes work out.
What do you all make of this? Would you like to have seen a Civil War style film between the X-Men and The Fantastic Four? Would you have trusted such a film under Fox? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
Here is a synopsis for the latest Fox X-Men film, Dark Phoenix:
This is the story of one of the X-Men’s most beloved characters, Jean Grey, as she evolves into the iconic DARK PHOENIX. During a life-threatening rescue mission in space, Jean is hit by a cosmic force that transforms her into one of the most powerful mutants of all. Wrestling with this increasingly unstable power as well as her own personal demons, Jean spirals out of control, tearing the X-Men family apart and threatening to destroy the very fabric of our planet. The film is the most intense and emotional X-Men movie ever made. It is the culmination of 20 years of X-Men movies, as the family of mutants that we’ve come to know and love must face their most devastating enemy yet — one of their own.
Written and directed by Simon Kinberg, Dark Phoenix stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain.
