James Gunn and Peter Safran are set to usher in a new era of the DC Universe, leaving many of the old actors behind. However, it seems as though Gal Gadot may be hinting at her return as Wonder Woman.
The future of Wonder Woman in the new DC Universe has been up in the air since James Gunn and Peter Safran took over the DC Universe. Patty Jenkins departed Wonder Woman 3 late last year due to alleged story disputes, leaving the future of Gal Gadot continuing as Diana Prince uncertain. However, it seems as though Gadot is more certain of her return than fans, teasing things are being worked on behind the scenes.
“Things are being worked behind the scenes,” Gadot told ET, “and once the right moment arrives, you’ll know about it.”
Given Gal Gadot has served as the glue holding together the disparate parts of the DC Universe these past few years, retaining her as Wonder Woman may serve as a way to retain fans of the old era as James Gunn and Peter Safran forge a new path for the members of the Justice League. However, with Patty Jenkins seemingly still not returning for Wonder Woman 3, Gadot’s solo project prospects remain uncertain.
A new era for the DC Universe
James Gunn and Peter Safran now in charge of DC’s film, television and animations efforts at Warner Bros. Discovery, bringing the company’s comic book-related assets under one roof. Gunn is said to be focusing on the creative direction of the DCU while Safran is handling things that are related to business and production.
Blue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are currently in various stages of post-production at Warner Bros. Discovery, with both DC Universe movies slated to hit theaters in 2023. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
