Wonder Woman 3 is in the works.

Gal Gadot has confirmed that work has started on the script for her third Wonder Woman film.

Gal Gadot first appeared as Wonder Woman in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and went on to play the character in two standalone films, as well as in the DC team-up movie, Justice League. Both her standalone films have been directed by Patty Jenkins, who is due to return for Wonder Woman 3.

Little is known about the plot of the next movie, but it will presumably feature another jump forward in time – Wonder Woman took place during the First World War, while its sequel, Wonder Woman 1984, brought the character into the 1980s. Wonder Woman 3 has been confirmed to feature the return of Lynda Carter, who played Wonder Woman in the character’s 1970s TV series, as the legendary Amazonian, Asteria.

In a recent interview with Forbes, Gal Gadot touched upon the third installment in the current Wonder Woman franchise and revealed wheels are in motion, with work already underway on the film’s script:

“We’re talking! We’re actually in the mix of working on the script and getting the third one made, so it’s all wheels are working and turning and I’m super, super excited for the fans to come and watch Wonder Woman 3 once it’s made.”

Wonder Woman 1984 struggled to impress to the same degree as its predecessor, so fans of the character will surely be glad to hear that Gal Gadot’s take on the character is still due to return and work is already beginning on her next appearance. There is no confirmed release date for Wonder Woman 3 yet, but more details are sure to emerge as work on the film continues.

Here is the synopsis for the previous film in the franchise, Wonder Woman 1984:

Patty Jenkins returns to direct the next chapter in the story, which finds Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) living and working among mortals, remaining selfless in a vibrant era of excess and “having it all.” But her own values are challenged as she reunites with a lost love while stepping into the spotlight to help humanity escape a dangerous world of its own making. Also starring Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal, Robin Wright and Connie Nielsen.

Directed by Patty Jenkins from a script she co-wrote with David Callaham and a treatment she developed with Geoff Johns, the film stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal, Natasha Rothwell, Ravi Patel, Gabriella Wilde, Connie Nielson, and Robin Wright.
