One of the most shocking elements of The Fantastic Four: First Steps was the reveal that Ralph Ineson’s suit as Galactus was entirely practical. In a world where there’s often more CGI in a film than actual actors, it was a refreshing change of pace to see such a larger-than-life character done with practical effects.
However, due to the marketing of The Fantastic Four: First Steps going out of its way to obscure the design of Galactus until the film dropped (yet another refreshing decision by Marvel), fans haven’t been able to get a clean look at the practical costume worn by Ralph Ineson. That is, until a recent batch of BTS photos the actor posted to his Instagram, showing fans the suit in all of its glory!
Galactus’ Brand New Design In The MCU
While some say that the practical suit looks a tad busy, especially when compared to other already busy suits in the MCU, it may be one of the most comic-accurate parts of The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The costume worn by Ralph Ineson evokes the intricate line work of the team’s original artist Jack Kirby, who had a number of memorials throughout the film.
Though given Marvel’s history, it’s not likely this suit will stay practical for long. Fans should expect Ralph Ineson to don a mo-cap suit in his next appearance following The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Though even if this triumph was short lived, it was certainly interesting to see this approach to the character on the silver screen.
