Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke has shared her thoughts on the fan petition to reshoot season 8, retconning what happened in the final season of the hit HBO series.
The final season of Game of Thrones has been divisive to say the least. Many fans initially praised the start of the season for its character building and send offs of fan-favorite characters. However, following the fifth episode of season eight, titled “The Bells,” some have turned on the show, with many citing the villainous turn of Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen as the point things fell apart.
The twist in episode five in turn has sparked a fan petition to redo the final season of Game Of Thrones with new writers and retcon the season that has just been released. We have heard some Game of Thrones cast members speak their mind about the fan petition and now Daenerys Targaryen herself, Emilia Clarke, has shared her thoughts on the matter. Here’s what Emilia Clarke told The New Yorker:
Oh, my goodness, well, I can only speak to my own character, and the people that I interact with on the show. But I would’ve loved some more scenes with me and Missandei. I would’ve loved some more scenes with me and Cersei. I would’ve loved some more scenes between Grey Worm and Missandei. I would’ve loved to see a bit more between Cersei . . . I feel like there was . . . The genocide was there. That was always going to happen. And I just think more dissection and those beautifully written scenes that the boys have between characters—that we are more than happy to contently sit there and watch ten minutes of two people talking, because it’s beautiful. I just wanted to see a bit more of that. But I’m in no position to critique the geniuses that have written eight seasons’ worth of wonderful stuff.
Daenerys Targaryen has spoken. While the final season is divisive, the story was seemingly always meant to go this way. While the petition has a large amount of support, with now over a million signatures, it seems that the ending we have received was the one David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were planning from the start. What did you think of the finale? Do you wish the season played out differently? Let us know in the comments down below!
David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, Bryan Cogman and Dave Hill have written the final six episodes, which have been directed by David Nutter and Miguel Sapochnik, with Benioff and Weiss helming the series finale. Benioff and Weiss returned to executive produce the final season alongside Carolyn Strauss, Frank Doelger and Bernadette Caulfield, with Bryan Cogman, Guymon Casady, Vince Gerardis and George R.R. Martin serving as co-executive producers.
George R.R. Martin’s best-selling book series “A Song of Ice and Fire” depicts two powerful families — kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars and honest men — all playing a deadly game for control of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, and to sit atop the Iron Throne. Winter is coming.
