During an interview with the New York Times, Sophie Turner commented on the petition to remake the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones.
The final season of Game of Thrones has been met with mixed reactions, at best, with many fans of the series expressing their frustration over the resolution and how the quality of the once-acclaimed show has fallen. In fact, disappointed fans launched a petition urging HBO to remake the final season of Game of Thrones that has reached over 1 million signatures, despite the fact that its creator has stated they are not confident the campaign will yield results.
When asked about the negative reactions to Game of Thrones season 8, Sophie Turner, who portrayed Sansa Stark since the first episode of the series, noted she is not surprised considering how fans had preconceived notions of how the show should end. However, Sophie Turner slammed the petition to remake the last season as “disrespectful” to the entire creative team behind the series who poured in years of hard work to bring Game of Thrones to life:
Honestly, I’m not surprised. People always have an idea in their heads of how they want a show to finish, and so when it doesn’t go to their liking, they start to speak up about it and rebel.
The thing about “Game of Thrones” that’s always been amazing is the fact that there’s always been crazy twists and turns, right from Season 1 with Ned’s beheading. So Daenerys becoming something of the Mad Queen — it shouldn’t be such a negative thing for fans. It’s a shock for sure, but I think it’s just because it hasn’t gone their way.
All of these petitions and things like that — I think it’s disrespectful to the crew, and the writers, and the filmmakers who have worked tirelessly over 10 years, and for 11 months shooting the last season. Like 50-something night shoots. So many people worked so, so hard on it, and for people to just rubbish it because it’s not what they want to see is just disrespectful.
