Geoff Johns, after completing the event series Doomsday Clock, has confirmed that updates on future Green Lantern projects are coming.
In an interview with Newsarama discussing the long-awaited conclusion to his DC Universe and Watchmen crossover, Geoff Johns explained that fans will get updates on Green Lantern stories that aren’t confined to the pages of comic books. He noted that there was a lot that he got finished in 2019, and that he’s proud of his work and can’t wait for everyone to see it.
Here’s what Geoff Johns said about his productive year:
“It’s a really exciting year to have Doomsday Clock finished up. I’m doing more comics. Stargirl trailer’s out. [Wonder Woman 1984] is on its way. And a lot of work with Green Lantern outside comics that hopefully you’ll hear about soon. I feel very, very lucky I work on the characters I do with the people I do. I couldn’t be more fortunate, and it’s been a time-intensive and challenging year, but a good one.”
Two major Green Lantern projects have been in the pipeline: Green Lantern Corps, a film set in DC’s shared movie universe, and a Green Lantern series for HBO Max. Geoff Johns, who has made reinventing the character one of his most well-known accomplishments, is involved with both projects. It remains to be seen if the Green Lantern content that he’s talking about will refer to one or both of these works.
A Green Lantern Corps movie is currently in the works at Warner Brothers, with Geoff Johns on board as a writer and producer. Full details on the Green Lantern Corps movie are being kept under lock and key, though the project will draw inspiration from Geoff Johns’ work on the New 52 Green Lantern comics with both Hal Jordan and John Stewart set to appear.
In addition, Greg Berlanti is working on a Green Lantern series for HBO Max. It is unclear if it will be connected to the Arrowverse, but it is not replacing the planned film. Geoff Johns is also involved with this series.
