Star Wars Jar Jar Binks George Lucas

It seems that despite the hatred of seemingly the entire Star Wars fanbase, George Lucas recently stated that Jar Jar Binks is his favorte character in the franchise.

During this year’s Star Wars Celebration, George Lucas spoke duirng the panel for Star Wars: Episode I-The Phantom Menace‘s twentieth anniversary, the director called Jar Jar Binks his favorite character. He reportedly also stated that the film remains one of his favorite in the franchise.

Jar Jar Binks was, of course, one of the more infamous aspects of Episode I. Descriptions of the character ranged from annoying to racist as fans detested the character who seemed to be their focal point for everything that was wrong with the first installment of the Prequel Trilogy. The negative reaction against the character was so severe it, at one point almost drove the character’s actor, Ahmed Best, to suicide. It seems, however, that the character will always have a firm supporter in the franchise’s creator.

What do you all make of this declaration? Did you think that Jar Jar Binks was as bad as some fans made him out to be? Is George Lucas right to stand behind his character? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
