Fans are finally getting details about Sidewinder! Giancarlo Esposito shares some new information about his Marvel villain role in Captain America: Brave New World.
Marvel fans have been begging for Giancarlo Esposito to join the MCU for years. That’s why it was so shocking that one day set photos revealed that he had been cast as a villain in Captain America: Brave New World. While details about his role were sparse, it would later be confirmed that he would take on the mantle of Sidewinder, the leader of the Serpent Society.
However, it seems Sidewinder may be a lot different than fans expected in Captain America: Brave New World. Fans suspected Marvel would turn the villain into an unstoppable powerhouse of guns and knives from the set photos. Yet when describing his role at Fan Expo Chicago, Giancarlo Esposito said that the Serpent Society leader is “a scientist; a great mind,” teasing that fans “will see me do things that you’ve never seen me do before.”
Sidewinder’s Role In Captain America: Brave New World
Fans expected that the Serpent Society would be yet another case of Marvel wasting villains, especially as the trailers teased that The Leader would be the one pulling the strings. But Giancarlo Esposito’s words about his role as Sidewinder have thrown speculation on its head, as it’s now possible that he’s the true mastermind behind the events of Captain America: Brave New World.
With Captain America: Brave New World still half a year away, it’s not likely fans will learn much more about Giancarlo Esposito’s Sidewinder anytime soon. Marvel is clearly doing its best to keep a tight lid on the Serpent Society’s true role in the film. And given they only serve as a third of the villain roster for the project, there’s certainly a lot left to be discovered!
