Fans have been begging for Giancarlo Esposito to join the MCU for years. Their prayers have finally come through with Captain America: Brave New World. However, both Esposito and Marvel are being tight-lipped about what his role will actually be. According to the actor, nobody has managed to guess the character he’s playing:
“The character I’m playing is a badass. That always excites me. For me to develop that character in line with the character’s inception is a fascinating art for me,” Esposito explained during a recent appearance at Fanboy Expo. “I had an incredible time shooting it. I’m not telling you who I’m playing…people are trying to guess and no one has guessed correctly yet.”
If true, this knocks out quite a few characters fans thought he’d play in the MCU. Some notable speculations about what role he’d play in Captain America: Brave New World include Bushman, Machete, Henry Gyrich, Reginald Fortean, and Paladin. The comments certainly narrow down the field.
A New Rumor About Giancarlo Esposito’s Role
The rumor mill isn’t done with Giancarlo Esposito quite yet! Scooper MyTimeToShineHello insists that they’ve got the lead on who he’ll be playing in the MCU. According to them, his character went by the codename Bridge during the production of Captain America: Brave New World. This suggests he’ll either be playing George Washington Bridge in the film, or Marvel duped them with the name!
In the comics, George Washington Bridge is a veteran and former SHIELD agent recruited to hunt down heroes like the Punisher and Cable. While his role in Captain America: Brave New World would certainly be a departure from these roots, it does line up with what fans know about Giancarlo Esposito’s role in the MCU!
