After previously revealing that he would like to play Professor X in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Giancarlo Esposito has shared how he would approach the character.
In a recent convention appearance, Giancarlo Esposito named Professor X the Marvel character he would most like to play, choosing the leader of the X-Men over other popular fan casts, such as Magneto and Dr. Doom.
With the X-Men set to enter the MCU at some point in the not-too-distant future, Esposito has shared his pitch for his take on Charles Xavier, as well as talking about turning down a role in a Marvel Disney Plus series.
Marvel’s New Charles Xavier
Speaking during a recent appearance at Fan Expo Boston, Giancarlo Esposito revealed what Marvel fans could expect from his take on Professor X should he land the MCU role.
The legendary actor, who has chilled audiences as both Gustavo “Gus” Fring in Breaking Bad and Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian, shared how he would bring his signature “force, grace and calm” to a more heroic role.
Addressing his approach to Professor X, Giancarlo Esposito said:
“I’d play that character with force, grace, and a calm. Someone who controls the chaos but who also has the ability to uplift and inspire.”
Esposito also revealed that he had previously met with Marvel to discuss a potential role in Disney Plus series Loki. However, the actor says he chose to hold out for a potential film role in the MCU instead:
“In the Marvel Universe if you do something in television, one character, you can’t switch and play a different character. So, out of that meeting, which was really wonderful, I had some interest in doing something with them which they’ve since done, I think it was Loki at that time, and someone else has done Loki, that’s great, in television and I’d like to be invited to the table to do something in film because I have a big persona and I’ve been in the television world for a while and I’ve still got some movies each year.”
Fans will have to wait and see whether Marvel Studios take up Giancarlo Esposito on his pitch for his take on Professor X. There is yet to be any official announcement on when the X-Men might make their MCU debut, but the season finale of Ms. Marvel has promised the mutants are on their way.
Here is the synopsis for the next MCU project, She-Hulk:
