Gina Carano is once more taking aim at Disney! The former The Mandalorian actress has spoken out against the House of Mouse in the newest development in her lawsuit against them.
Back in 2021, Gina Carano put out a string of contentious posts on social media. Among the contents include posts downplaying the effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccine and bolstering claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election. Following a particularly inflammatory post comparing the treatment of Republicans in America to Jews in the Holocaust, the actress was fired from her role as Cara Dune in The Mandalorian.
Gina Carano would decry the decision by Disney and Lucasfilm as the latest example of “cancel culture” gone too far. Three years later in February 2024, Carano announced that she would be suing the House of Mouse for wrongful termination. The suit would require her role in The Mandalorian to be reinstated along with $75,000 being awarded in punitive damages.
Disney Wants Gina Carano’s Suit Tossed
In the latest developments of this lawsuit, Disney is attempting to get the lawsuit dismissed. In their latest filing, the company claims Gina Carano was fired from The Mandalorian as her choice “to publicly trivialize the Holocaust by comparing criticism of political conservatives to the annihilation of millions of Jewish people—notably, not ‘thousands’—was the final straw for Disney.”
In response to this newest claim, Gina Carano has taken to Twitter/X to blast Disney once more. The newest response claims that Disney is misrepresenting her statements and that the first amendment should have protected her from being fired from The Mandalorian.
“Disney has confirmed what has been known all along, they will fire you if you say anything they disagree with, even if they have to MISREPRESENT, MALIGN, and MISCHARACTERIZE you to do it.” Carano wrote. “They are now on record letting everyone who works for them know that Disney will take any chance they get to control what you say, what you think or they will attempt to destroy your career. Glad we cleared that up.”
“The First Amendment does not allow Disney to wantonly DISCRIMINATE, which is what they have done in my case and frankly have now admitted they did. If you ever wanted to know what today’s ‘Disney values’ are, they just told you.”
It should be noted that the first amendment does not protect citizens from actions taken by private corporations, only preventing the government from taking actions to silence their free speech without valid cause. This stance was used by Disney in the filing to reason why the case filed by The Mandalorian star should be dismissed. Gina Carano’s trial against Disney is currently set to take place on June 12 if it is not thrown out.
