Post-production on Godzilla: King of the Monsters has officially been completed ahead of its May 2019 release date.
2014’s Godzilla was a mammoth hit when it was released in theaters, earning an impressive $529 million at the worldwide box office. Almost exactly five years later, its sequel, subtitled King of the Monsters, is crashing into theaters and from what we’ve seen so far, it seems to be doubling down on the monster mayhem. Whereas Godzilla fought the MUTO monsters in the 2014 film, the iconic monster will now be going up against some of the most famous characters from his history.
As the San Diego Comic-Con trailer showed, Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah will be joining the rebooted monster franchise this time around. If that isn’t enough to get you excited, then director Mike Dougherty’s Twitter update is sure to get you hyped. The Krampus director revealed via a photo on Twitter that Godzilla: King of the Monsters has officially completed post-production. Check out the photo below to see the whole message from Dougherty.
It is done. With love and gratitude to the thousands of talented people all around the world who helped make this lifelong dream a reality. In Godzilla we trust. @GodzillaMovie pic.twitter.com/JnPoqFoXHY

One of the most common complaints that audiences had with the 2014 Godzilla was its lack of monster violence. Now that the franchise is bringing in not one but three iconic monsters for Godzilla to battle this time around, it seems that Dougherty is looking to deliver what fans have wanted ever since that awesome teaser trailer dropped for the 2014 reboot.

Directed by Michael Dougherty, Godzilla: King of the Monsters stars Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Bradley Whitford, Sally Hawkins, Charles Dance, Thomas Middleditch, O’Shea Jackson Jr., with Ken Watanabe and Ziyi Zhang.
Following the global success of “Godzilla” and “Kong: Skull Island” comes the next chapter in Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ cinematic MonsterVerse, an epic action adventure that pits Godzilla against some of the most popular monsters in pop culture history. The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.
Godzilla: The King of the Monsters will be released in theaters on May 31, 2019.
