Legendary Comics has announced a new graphic novel that will serve as a prequel to the upcoming film, Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
Godzilla: Aftershock will be a prequel to King of the Monsters, written by Arvid Nelson and with art from Drew Edward Johnson. The prequel follows the king of the monsters after the events of the first film as he faces a new enemy, which will cause catastrophic earthquakes in the process. Aftershock will be released in the Spring and Senior Vice President Robert Napton talked about the latest entry to the MonterVerse:
“Godzilla: Aftershock is yet another exhilarating entry into the canon of the MonsterVerse, and it is especially exciting to introduce fans to a brand new original monster unique to the comic, but true to the legacy of Godzilla.”
Fans attending Los Angeles Comic-Con can get a sneak peek of Godzilla: Aftershock at the Legendary Comics panel “Godzilla: Secrets of the MonsterVerse” in Room 403B on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 3 p.m. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive an exclusive signed/numbered Godzilla poster only available at the panel.

Directed by Michael Dougherty, Godzilla: King of the Monsters stars Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Bradley Whitford, Sally Hawkins, Charles Dance, Thomas Middleditch, O’Shea Jackson Jr., with Ken Watanabe and Ziyi Zhang.
Following the global success of “Godzilla” and “Kong: Skull Island” comes the next chapter in Warner Bros. The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.
Godzilla: The King of the Monsters will be released in theaters on May 31, 2019.
