The MonsterVerse is set to expand even further with the upcoming release of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. The synopsis for the movie has been released, teasing fans with what’s to come when the film hits theaters on March 15, 2024.
According to Legendary Pictures: “This latest entry in the Monsterverse franchise follows up the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong with an all-new cinematic adventure, pitting the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence – and our own. The epic new film will delve further into the histories of these Titans, their origins, and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever.”
The return of the MonsterVerse franchise
Fans of the MonsterVerse are sure to be excited by the prospect of seeing these two iconic monsters teaming up once again. The previous film, Godzilla vs. Kong, was a massive success, earning $470.1 million at the worldwide box office. With the promise of even more epic battles and a deeper exploration of the MonsterVerse mythology, The New Empire is sure to be another hit.
Legendary’s MonsterVerse began with 2014’s Godzilla and has since grown to include Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong. At the heart of the franchise has been the secret monster-hunting organization Monarch.
One thing that fans can be sure of is that Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will continue to explore the complex relationship between Godzilla and King Kong, two of the most iconic movie monsters of all time. The previous film saw the two Titans face off before teaming up to stop Mechagodzilla.
Director Adam Wingard is back for the Godzilla vs. Kong sequel, with a star-studded cast that includes Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Kaylee Hottle, Dan Stevens and Fala Chen. Terry Rossio, Jeremy Slater, Simon Barrett wrote the script.
