The showrunners for the Fox series ‘Gotham’ have finally admitted that they almost turned Barbara Kean into Harley Quinn.
As Gotham gears up for its fifth and final season, certain things are coming to light regarding the series’ development. One thing the showrunner John Stevens revealed is that they almost turned the character of Barabra Kean into Harley Quinn. The show is known for bringing most of the iconic Batman villains to life and Quinn was one of the few they missed so far. Kean’s character was definitely a bit nutty at times so it would not have been that hard to make the transition. That wasn’t the only character considered for Kean. Magpie was also on the table at one point and then quickly removed, thankfully.
“I think we were briefly thinking of turning her, for some reason, I don’t know why, now it seems like a terrible idea, into Magpie. So we’re not going to do that, we’re just gonna have Magpie. There was a brief period where we said ‘Is there a way to turn her into Harley Quinn’ but we didn’t do that either.”
It will be interesting to see if Kean will go full Harley Quin or if she’ll finish off her tenure in the Dark Knight’s city without uttering the phrase puddin’. Gotham looks to wrap up the origin of Batman next year.
Gotham airs on Fox and stars Ben McKenzie, Morena Baccarin, David Mazouz, Camren Bicondova, Sean Pertwee, Robin Lord Taylor, Cory Michael Smith, Donal Logue, Chris Chalk, Erin Richards, Jessica Lucas, Nathan Darrow, Michelle Veintimilla, and Cameron Monaghan.
The fifth and final season will air on Fox next year.
