‘Gotham’ Showrunner Reveals Details On Bruce Wayne’s Batman Suit

With Gotham set to conclude at the end of the fifth season, fans are hoping to see young Bruce Wayne don the classic Batman costume before the series wraps. During press round-table interviews at New York Comic Con, showrunner John Stephens offered fans a hint at what they expect from Bruce’s first official Batsuit in Gotham.

Stephens likened the Gotham version of the Batsuit to the outfit worn by Christan Bale’s Batman in Christopher Nolan’s final chapter of the Dark Knight trilogy:

“I think it’s more matte. It’s inspired by, if I had to compare to any one costume, I’d say it’s closer to The Dark Knight Rises. It’s a little more metallic Bat battle-y looking rather than something like the Suicide one or the Affleck one.”

Those worried that the costume may not live up to expectations might be reassured to hear Stephens commend the wardrobe department’s designs:

“How much money can we allocate towards spending on this costume because it’s got to look good. Because you don’t want to spend five years, and all of a sudden go ‘great episode but that was a really crappy looking costume’. There’s a lot of pressure, but luckily our wardrobe department is amazing so all the designs they’re doing are going to be great. And we went with short ears.”

With Gotham on the brink of total anarchy and cut off from the outside world, only Jim Gordon, Bruce Wayne and a handful of heroes remain behind to retake the city. Inspired by the “No Man’s Land” arc from the comics, villains including Penguin, the Riddler, the Sirens and Jeremiah have taken claim on various regions of the city. Will order be restored, or will chaos reign in Gotham?

Gotham stars Ben McKenzie as Jim Gordon, Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth, Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot, Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle, and Cory Michael Smith as Edward Nygma.

Gotham season 5 will premiere on FOX in 2019.
