A video from the set of The CW’s upcoming Batman spin-off series, Gotham Knights, has revealed that Bruce Wayne may have a larger role to play in the series than first thought.
Gotham Knights is the latest DC series set to join The CW’s Arrowverse, which also includes series such as The Flash and Batwoman. The series takes place in Gotham City, following the murder of Bruce Wayne. It will follow the children of Batman’s rogues gallery as they join forces with the Caped Crusader’s adopted son, in order to protect Gotham and clear their own names after they are accused of murdering Batman.
As Gotham Knights is being billed as a spin-off that takes place after Batman’s death, it wasn’t clear how much Bruce Wayned would be featured in the series, if at all. The rules surrounding The CW’s use of Batman have always been a little unclear, but for the most part it appears that Warner Bros. has been reluctant to allow Batman to appear in any of the series. A few versions of Bruce Wayne (including one from an alternate universe, played by legendary Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy) have been seen though, suggesting the Dark Knight’s alter ego could appear in the series – and a new set video appears to confirm it.
Shared by TikTok user “lauraflora3000,” the video shows the cast and crew trailers at the University of Toronto, where parts of the series are being filmed. One of the trailers bears a name card reading “Bruce Wayne,” apparently confirming scenes involving the character are being filmed for Gotham Knights. Check out the video below:
This could suggest Bruce Wayne will appear in the series’ pilot, prior to his murder, or that the character could even appear throughout the series in the form of flashbacks.
Here is the premise for The CW’s Gotham Knights pilot:
In the wake of Bruce Wayne’s murder, his rebellious adopted son forges an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies when they are all framed for killing the Caped Crusader. And as the city’s most wanted criminals, this renegade band of misfits must fight to clear their names. But in a Gotham with no Dark Knight to protect it, the city descends into the most dangerous it’s ever been. However, hope comes from the most unexpected of places as this team of mismatched fugitives will become its next generation of saviors known as the Gotham Knights.
Written by Batwoman‘s Chad Fiveash, James Stoteraux, and Natalie Abrams, the pilot will star Oscar Morgan as Turner Hayes, Olivia Rose Keegan as Duela Dent, Navia Robinson as Carrie Kelley, Fallon Smythe as Harper Row, Tyler DiChiara as Cullen Row, Misha Collins as Harvey Dent, Anna Lore as Stephanie Brown, and Rahart Adams as Brody.
