Arrowverse stars Grant Gustin and Stephen Amell talked about swapping roles for next month’s Elseworlds crossover on The CW.
While the crossover was shooting in Vancouver, it was revealed that Gustin and Amell would be swapping each other’s tights. It has been described as a Freaky Friday scenario with Oliver Queen becoming Barry Allen and vice-versa. In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gustin described the situations the heroes face in the crossover event and talked about getting a chance to portray Green Arrow:
“You’re not going to see me playing Oliver Queen’s mannerisms, or Stephen playing Barry’s mannerisms. It’s more being aware that for some reason we’ve switched lives and destinies. It’s more the fun of the situational comedy that we keep finding ourselves in, and less us having a complete role reversal. We get to see Stephen do some of the more goofy speed stuff I have to do on a regular basis, and I get some actual combat as Green Arrow. So, we just see different colors for each of us.”
Amell also touched on what it was like to don the Flash suit and become Barry Allen:
“Having superpowers is crazy! Wearing the Flash suit is crazy! The idea is that in order to be the best version of Barry Allen, which I have to be because we face a threat, there are elements of his personality I have to embrace, and there are elements of my personality that he has to embrace.”
The upcoming Elseworlds crossover will find Green Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl visiting Gotham City after learning about the machinations of a sinister Arkham Asylum doctor. The event will mark the introduction of Ruby Rose as Batwoman and the first appearance of Gotham City in the Arrowverse. Superman will also appear in the crossover, with Tyler Hoechlin reprising the role from Supergirl, and Grimm star Elizabeth Tulloch will portray Lois Lane in the character’s Arrowverse debut.
The 2018 Elseworlds crossover starts with a special episode of The Flash on Sunday, December 9 and continues with Arrow on Monday, December 10. The three-night event will then conclude with Supergirl on Tuesday, December 11.
All three entries will air at 8:00 p.m. ET on their respective nights.
