Grant Gustin’s The Flash could be wrapping up soon despite the series getting renewed for a ninth season.

The Flash was the first spin-off series of the Arrowverse and launched back in 2014. The show is currently in its eighth season, with another on the way after Grant Gustin signed a new deal. Various cast members of The Flash have come and gone throughout its run, with The Hollywood Reporter sharing on Wednesday that Joe West actor Jesse L. Martin will not be a series regular for season nine.

Jesse L. Martin’s reduced role in The Flash‘s next season is reportedly due to the actor joining a new NBC pilot titled The Irrational. The report also mentioned there’s been talk at The CW that the Grant Gustin-led series might come to an end with an “abbreviated final season.”

The ending of Grant Gustin’s The Flash would come as the solo film starring Ezra Miller finally makes its way to theaters next summer. Fans speculate that Gustin will appear in the film following his encounter with Miller in 2019’s Crisis of Infinite Earths crossover event.

Here is a synopsis for the latest episode of The Flash:

“WHISPERS AND SCREAMS – Barry (Grant Gustin) and Chester (Brandon McKnight) may have found a way to stop the ‘Black Flame’ from hurting anyone else meanwhile Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) decides to handle a situation on her own, possibly putting more innocent lives in danger.”

The Flash stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen, Candice Patton as Iris West, Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow / Killer Frost, Jesse L. Martin as Joe West, and Danielle Nicolet as Cecile Horton.

The Flash season eight is currently airing on The CW every Tuesday. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the show’s latest season, the future of the series, and subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
