DC is keeping its options open with Lanterns! A new rumor brings even more names into the running to play Hal Jordan, including Ewan McGregor and Matthew McConaughey.
Early this week. the rumor mill began to churn that DC Studios had sent out an offer for an actor to play Hal Jordan in the upcoming Lanterns series. To the shock of many fans, the leading name appeared to be Josh Brolin. While the actor has been no stranger to superhero roles, many considered him far too old to play the iconic Green Lantern due to being nearly 60 years old.
Yet it seems Josh Brolin isn’t the only name on DC’s shortlist. A new report by Nexus Point News, the site that broke the initial rumor, suggests that the studio has a number of alternatives in case Brolin turns down the role of Green Lantern. Some of the names in the mix to star in Lanterns include Timothy Olyphant, Chris Pine, Ewan McGregor, and Matthew McConaughey; with the latter two corroborated by Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider.
Who Is DC’s Best Choice To Play Hal Jordan?
With most of the above actors being in their 50s, the internet has been hoping Chris Pine accepts the role of Green Lantern. After all, he already played another DC pilot in the Wonder Woman franchise! However, the actor has made it clear that he has no desire to return to the world of spandex and tights, making it unlikely that he would actually play Hal Jordan in the Lanterns series.
From the remaining mix, Josh Brolin and Ewan McGregor both have experience working in prior DC projects like Chris Pine, potentially giving them a leg up in playing the Green Lantern. However, Timothy Olyphant and Matthew McConaughey have both starred in massive sci-fi projects, giving them enough experience to at least keep up with the rest of the Lanterns competition. With deals already being sent out, it’s likely news on who will be playing Hal Jordan will be cemented sooner rather than later.
