Kurt Russell has shared new details regarding his character Ego the Living Planet in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2.
The sequel follows the Guardians including Star-Lord/Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax The Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper) and Baby Groot (Vin Diesel) as they set out on a quest to unravel the mystery of Star-Lord’s roots and find his father, Ego.
For the most part, Marvel has kept Ego shrouded in mystery throughout the marketing campaign for the film. Slowly but surely we’ve learned details regarding his character such as how he is able to manifest himself in different ways including human and planet form as well as how their approaches to the defending the galaxy will greatly differ. But now we have some new details about how regarding the dynamic the film will explore between Star-Lord and his father.
On the set of Marvel’s next installment to the MCU, Russell explained to Comicbook.com that the film will feature Star-Lord dealing with the reality of who his father actually is and not who he had hoped he would be:
“He has a great, adventurous spirit that he shares with his son. We can all understand how you’d want to meet your dad if you didn’t know who your dad was, and you’d heard these things about your father and you’d been told certain things by your mother, and you’re trying to put it together. I think, when it comes to parents that are missing, we have a tendency to put them on a pedestal. Peter is living in that world, but to finally have the opportunity to meet that person and then begin to compare who you had in mind and what you’re really getting is a lot of what we’re doing.”
Does this sound like an interesting dynamic worth exploring in the film? Sound off in the comments below.
The film stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Glenn Close, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, and Kurt Russell. Written and directed by James Gunn.
