Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt has opened up about his religious beliefs and had adamantly denied ever being part of an Anti-LGBTQ church.

Chris Pratt is an actor with something of a bizarre reputation among the Marvel Cinematic Universe stars. For some time now, rumors have circulated that he has been a part of a notable anti-LGBTQ church, known as The Hillsong Church. This has caused some fans to demand that his Guardians of the Galaxy role be recast. Director James Gunn has been adamant about defending the actor though the actor himself has been mostly quiet on the matter until now.

The Actor Tells His Side

In a recent interview with Men’s Health, Guardians of the Galaxy star, Chris Pratt discussed this particular rumor. In the past, he had said he never belonged to any anti-LGBTQ church but didn’t mention The Hillsong Church by name, until now:

“I never went to Hillsong. I’ve never actually been to Hillsong. I don’t know anyone from that church.”

He later clarified why he never mentioned the church before now:

“I’m gonna, like, throw a church under the bus? If it’s like the Westboro Baptist Church, that’s different.”

Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord and the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy will next appear in Thor: Love and Thunder. Here is the synopsis for the film:

Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the film stars Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Taika Waititi, Russell Crowe, Natalie Portman, Jaimie Alexander, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper.
