New images have emerged online, showing Dave Bautista and Pom Klementieff filming scenes as Drax and Mantis for The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special on Hollywood Boulevard.
So far, the Guardians of the Galaxy films have remained strictly space-bound and avoided any return trips to Peter Quill’s home planet, Earth. While the Guardians were seen on Earth in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, most of their time here was spent fighting Thanos and attending Tony Stark’s funeral (with the exceptions of Rocket and Nebula, who spent five years on Earth following Thanos’ snap). As such, there wasn’t really an opportunity for any sightseeing, but new set photos suggest that’s about to change in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.
The new images show Dave Bautista and Pom Klementieff suited up as Drax and Mantis as they explore Hollywood Boulevard. The two can be seen in amongst festive decorations, including a giant Oscars statue in a Christmassy hat and festive posters for Madame Tussauds. One image shows Klementieff as Mantis looking horrified at a gold-painted living statue, who she may well have mistaken for a member of the Sovereign – the gold-skinned alien race who menaced the Guardians in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
Drax is also, unusually, not topless in the new images. A sleeveless green hoodie has been added to Dave Bautista’s costume for the upcoming Disney Plus special. Perhaps winter on Earth is proving a little too chilly for Drax the Destroyer.
Along with the MCU holiday special, James Gunn is currently filming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which will star Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Sean Gunn, Sylvester Stallone, Will Poulter and Chukwudi Iwuji.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently set to hit theaters on May 5, 2023, while The Holiday Special will be available to stream on Disney Plus this holiday season.
