What is Gamora's legacy?

Zoe Saldaña has finally taken her bow as Gamora following the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. While the actress may not return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Saldaña has revealed her hopes that Gamora doesn’t go away entirely.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was a swan song for many members of the titular team. James Gunn made sure to give each character their own version of a happy ending. For Zoe Saldaña’s Gamora, this entailed finding a new family in the MCU’s Ravagers. It’s an ending that allows Saldaña to finally back out from the role with grace. In a recent edition of Marvel Studios: Assembled, Saldaña revealed her hopes that, even without her, Gamora lives on in the minds of fans around the world:

“I think the time has come for me to step down, and for the next generation to come forward,” Saldana explains. “The one thing I would not want is for Gamora to go away. She’s been such an impactful character for fans, and especially female fans, and young female fans.”

While it’s certainly a shame that fans won’t see Zoe Saldaña back in green as Gamora, there’s no doubt she’ll continue to inspire young fans for years to come. The Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy stands as an exemplar of the MCU and comic book films as a whole. Even if they didn’t, there’s always Avengers: Kang Dynasty that may feature room for a cameo.

What to expect from the third Guardians movie

Written and directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Sean Gunn, Sylvester Stallone, Will Poulter, Chukwudi Iwuji and Maria Bakalova.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 synopsis reads as follows: “Our beloved band of misfits are settling into life on Knowhere, but it isn’t long before their lives are upended by the echoes of Rocket’s turbulent past. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him on a dangerous mission to save Rocket’s life – a mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.”
