Is there actually going to be a Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 4? Some members of the franchise’s cast give their thoughts on another installment.

The Guardians of the Galaxy franchise came to an end back in 2023, marking the end of James Gunn’s involvement in the MCU. However, with the recent talk of Paramount purchasing Warner Bros. Discovery, there’s been some speculation that Gunn might ditch the DC Universe and return to Disney, potentially opening the door to a Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 4.

As this speculation heated up, a number of cast members from Guardians of the Galaxy were making an appearance at Emerald City Comic-Con (via CBR). Those in attendance being: Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Sean Gunn (Kraglin), and Michael Rooker (Yondu). The group was asked if they’d be open to making a return in a potential Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 4. And it seems at least Sean Gunn was open to the opportunity.

“In some ways, it’s almost like a little above my pay grade. It’s like, if they decide to do it, if they decide that they can put the pieces together and get the right cast, and get a script that they really like and that works, then it would depend on who wrote that script and who was putting it together. And by that point, there would probably already be somebody who was part of it, so I don’t know.”

Is Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 4 Actually Happening?

Before anyone can get too excited about the possibility of a Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 4, it seems not every member of the cast would be eager to see the franchise return. Michael Rooker admits that, while it was bittersweet to see the franchise end, he’d prefer it not turn into a shambling corpse of its former self like some other franchises he was a part of.

“The third one was incredible, but also heartbreaking because we knew it would be the last one, so it’s really special that way,. The Christmas special was so fun to shoot, so I just loved it so much. Thank goodness it didn’t go on further. It would become like The Walking Dead. Please, enough already.”

Ultimately, it’s probably not safe to bet that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 4 will happen anytime soon. Even if James Gunn does return to Marvel, it’s more likely that he brings cast members like Sean Gunn and Michael Rooker into new corners of the universe rather than try to recapture the magic of his old work.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now streaming on Disney Plus. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy series!
