‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2’: James Gunn On Sylvester Stallone’s Future In The MCU

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2 Sylvester Stallone

While Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is still just a little over one week away from hitting theaters, director James Gunn and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige are already formulating plans for the future of the team and the cosmic corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole. In an interview with the Toronto Sun, Gunn discussed his role in the development of future cosmic MCU projects and his plans to include Sylvester Stallone’s character in upcoming films.

Gunn explained that he plans to include Sylvester Stallone in future MCU films alongside other recently revealed characters who will debut in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

“My plan is to see more of him. I’m not sure about him appearing in Vol. 3, we’ll have to see about that, but it’s our plan to see more of Stallone. Kevin (Feige) and I are working on what is going to become of the Marvel Cosmic Universe and where it’s going to go. We plan to see the rest of them in the future.”

Gunn reiterated his previous comments on how the third Guardians film will conclude the story of the current team line-up.

“I think the first three movies tell a single story and that story is pretty simple. I think that there could be a Guardians Vol. 4, but it would not be the same. It would not be the same group… basically the story of this group ends with Vol. 3.”

Gunn elaborated on his plans for the cosmic corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“I’m helping to decide what projects we’ll be pursuing outside of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3… and what the next cosmic characters we will focus on.”

Gunn added that he and Sylvester Stallone have discussed his role in future MCU projects.

“It’s my plan to have Sly — and I talked to him last night — to find a place for him in the future of the Marvel Universe.”

While it may be disappointing to hear that the current team’s time will come to an end, the prospect of expanding the cosmic corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is certainly exciting, especially if Sylvester Stallone will be involved.

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Directed by James Gunn, the film stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Glenn Close, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki and Kurt Russell.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be released in theaters on May 5, 2017.
