Hailee Steinfeld teased an epic showdown between Kate Bishop and Kingpin in Hawkeye.

During Marvel Studios’ fifth episode of Hawkeye, fans finally received official confirmation that Vincent D’Onofrio has returned to play Wilson Fisk AKA Kingpin in the series, officially implementing him (and Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock) into the canon of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With that in mind, it’s safe to say that Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop will face her biggest opponent yet.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Hailee Steinfeld discussed the big reveal of Kingpin, and teased how Kate Bishop will face off against him in the Hawkeye finale:

“It’s a very different experience standing underneath Vincent and hearing him. To be in his presence is really something… I’ve been a fan of his for a very long time. It’s always amazing to be a part of something with people that you really admire. I’m excited to see people watch it unfold… This is somebody that she doesn’t know much about, but she’s been warned. She knows everything she needs to know when she hears Clint say ‘this is the guy I’ve been worried about the whole time.’ That right there is enough for her to need to come to her sense and figure out how to handle the situation. If it didn’t feel real before, it’s real now. After all the partner talk and jokes that have been thrown around, now she has the opportunity to step up to the plate.”

It turns out that this was done in order to reveal that Kate Bishop’s mother Eleanor Bishop (Vera Farmiga) is working with Kingpin, much to the chagrin of Hailee Steinfeld’s co-protagonist to Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye:

“That is quite the bomb that gets dropped… It’s not something that Kate could have ever seen coming. I think that in that moment, we fear for her. I remember reading it and feeling like there is this sense of fear, because we now have no idea what her mother is capable of. But I did feel this sort of confidence in Kate. Although it’s only been a couple days, I believe in that moment Kate is far more capable of protecting herself than she might have been just a few days prior. Not to mention she has an Avenger by her side to help her navigate through this!”

Hailee Steinfeld previously lent her voice talents to Spider-Gwen in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, in which she also faced off against Kingpin (Liev Schrieber). Obviously, that was an animated film, whereas this live-action series is a completely different beast altogether. Either way, it will be exciting to see how Kate Bishop and Clint Barton work together to face off against Kingpin in the finale!

Here is the synopsis for Hailee Steinfeld’s Hawkeye:

Former Avenger Clint Barton has a seemingly simple mission: get back to his family for Christmas. Possible? Maybe with the help of Kate Bishop, a 22-year-old archer with dreams of becoming a Super Hero. The two are forced to work together when a presence from Barton’s past threatens to derail far more than the festive spirit.

Hawkeye stars Jeremy Renner, Hailee Steinfeld, Tony Dalton, Fra Free, Brian d’Arcy James, Aleks Paunovic, Piotr Adamczyk, Linda Cardellini, Simon Callow, Vera Farmiga and Alaqua Cox. Florence Pugh also returned in her Black Widow role.

The first five episodes of Hawkeye are now available to stream on Disney Plus, with new episodes dropping on Wednesdays.
