Halle Bailey is Disney’s Ariel in a brand new poster for The Little Mermaid.
Disney has dropped a stunning poster for its live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid, showing Halle Bailey as the film’s lead character, Ariel. The poster comes just over a month after the release of the film’s official trailer, which made its debut during Disney’s D23 Expo. Check it out below.
Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken are writing new songs for this live-action take on The Little Mermaid to be included alongside the classic tunes the latter penned for the animated version. In addition to his duties as a songwriter, Miranda is serving as an executive producer alongside Rob Marshall, Marc Platt and John DeLuca.
Is the remake following the same storyline as the animated movie?
Here is the synopsis for The Little Mermaid, courtesy of Disney.
“The Little Mermaid” is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters, and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.
Directed by Rob Marshall from a script written by David Magee, Disney’s The Little Mermaid stars Halle Bailey as Ariel, Melissa McCarthy as the villainous sea witch Ursula, Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Jacob Tremblay as the voice of Flounder, Awkwafina as the voice of Scuttle, Daveed Diggs as the voice of Sebastian the Crab and Javier Bardem as King Triton.
The Little Mermaid will hit theaters on May 26, 2023. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Disney’s upcoming features and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
