The showrunners behind the Harley Quinn animated series address the joke that took aim at the fans rallying around Zack Snyder’s Justice League cut.
While the internet’s made plenty of jokes at the expense of the Release the Snyder Cut movement, the Harley Quinn showrunners recently addressed the joke they made on the series that took aim at the fans. The scene saw a fan wearing a shirt with the infamous slogan on the front while strongly criticizing the Harley Quinn series for “virtue signalling.” It hilariously parodied the type of fan that emerged from the controversy surrounding Zack Snyder’s Justice League. But in a recent interview, one of the showrunners behind the series explained the motive behind the scene.
Showrunners Patrick Shumacker and Justin Halpern took part in a Q&A session on DC Universe, with Shumacker explaining that the shirts in the Harley Quinn scene were originally just an inside joke. He pointed out that he found it funny because of how deep the character’s toxic fandom was. The showrunner also praised Snyder Cut fans for how well they took the joke.
“Honestly, I put the shirts in there as an internal joke, and assumed those would never make it into the final cut haha. Ultimately these guys were comedic to me because of how deep their toxic fandom ran, (particularly the one guy). And I don’t think he’s representative of all the Snyder Cut enthusiasts AT ALL. In truth, I had cold feet about keeping the shirts but I’m glad we did at the end of the day, and the Snyder Cut fans’ response has been outstanding. Such great sports!”
