Harrison Ford Was Shocked Han Solo Could Return In ‘Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker’

Harrison Ford revealed that he was surprised Han Solo could return in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Throughout the Star Wars sequel trilogy, much of conflict within Kylo Ren was caused by his decision to murder his father, Han Solo, in The Force Awakens. Towards the end of the final chapter of the saga, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Kylo Ren was able to resolve the conflict within him and return to the light partly due to a conversation with a memory of Harrison Ford’s Han Solo.

Harrison Ford’s brief return as Han Solo in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was a welcome surprise for audiences and it appears the possibility of such an appearance shocked the actor himself. During an interview with USA Today, Harrison Ford revealed that was initially perplexed as to how Han Solo could return despite being dead when J. J. Abrams first proposed the cameo:

“When JJ asked me to do it, I said, ‘Are you kidding? I’m dead!’ He said, ‘Sorta dead. You can do this.’ He hadn’t written anything at that time. But he said, ‘This is going to be great.’ So I said okay. If JJ asked you do something, you’d probably do it too. He’s a very persuasive guy.”

Harrison Ford later added that he accepted J. J. Abrams’ offer to return as Han Solo in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker because the scene was key to Kylo Ren’s development:

“It was a useful addition to the story and the continuing development of Adam Driver’s character. And the chance to do another scene with Adam was great.”

While some fans have suggested Han Solo was able to return because he figured out how to become a Force Ghost, Harrison Ford noted that he doesn’t even know of such a thing, saying, “I have no (expletive) idea what a Force ghost is. And I don’t care!”
