The Harry Potter franchise is getting a fresh start with an upcoming reboot of the series on the HBO streaming service Max. However, it seems as though Daniel Radcliffe, the original Boy Who Lived, has no interest in returning to the franchise.
The news that Harry Potter would be getting a reboot series on the Max streaming service came as a shock to many, given the franchise only ended a little over a decade ago. Along with the announcement came speculation on which of the original cast members might return for the HBO reboot series. During an interview with ComicBook.com, Harry Potter actor Danielle Radcliffe revealed that he isn’t interested in returning to Hogwarts:
“My understanding is that they’re trying to very much start fresh and I’m sure whoever is making them will want to make their own mark on it and probably not want to have to figure out how to get old Harry to cameo in this somewhere,” Radcliffe told the site. “So I’m definitely not seeking it out in any way. But I do wish them, obviously, all the luck in the world and I’m very excited to have that torch passed. But I don’t think it needs me to physically pass it.”
Daniel Radcliffe has worked hard to ensure he isn’t solely known as “that one guy from Harry Potter.” The actor has continued to evolve his career with intense dramas like Imperium and surreal fantasies like Swiss Army Man. It’s no shock that he doesn’t have much of an interest in returning to the Wizarding World, though there may certainly be fans to whom this news sours the upcoming Max series.
The first details about the Harry Potter Max series
Each season of the series will be based on one of the seven Harry Potter books, with the first one taking inspiration from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. This approach will no doubt be a welcome one for fans, who have long been hoping for a faithful adaptation of the books that stays true to the original vision of J.K. Rowling.
The Harry Potter series is sure to be a major boost for Max, which has been making waves in the streaming world with its recent slate of original content. With the Wizarding World franchise boasting a massive global following, the series has the potential to be a major draw for subscribers, helping to solidify Max’s position in the competitive streaming landscape.
For J.K. Rowling, the series represents a chance to return to the world that made her a household name and to continue to build upon the mythology she created over 20 years ago. Since the release of the final book in the series, titled Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Rowling has continued to expand the wizarding world through various spin-off projects, including the Fantastic Beasts series.
With J.K. Rowling on board as a producer and each season based on one of the seven books in the series, Harry Potter fans can expect a faithful adaptation that explores the world of the Wizarding World in greater depth. Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts are also on board as executive producers, with David Heyman in talks to join the creative team.
