Hasbro and Mattel are two of the biggest toy manufacturers on the planet, holding juggernaut brands such as Transformers and Barbie. In preparation for their franchises getting films this summer, the two companies have teamed up to create co-branded toys and games.

This deal is set to combine the biggest properties of Hasbro and Mattel, though perhaps not how people would expect. As in, don’t expect Barbie and Ken to take a vacation to Cybertron just yet! According to The Hollywood Reporter, the deal mostly seems to pertain to branded versions of popular toy products. The list includes a Barbie-themed Monopoly set, Transformers-based UNO games and Hot Wheels cars based on characters from Transformers. All these products are set to launch between the Fall of 2023 and the start of 2024.

These products are meant to tie-in to each company’s upcoming film releases. Hasbro is set to release Transformers: Rise of the Beasts on June 9, 2023, promising to bring fans back to the ’90s when the Maximals, Predacons and Terrorcons joined the war between the Autobots and Decepticons. Mattel’s Barbie film will hit theaters the following month on July 21, 2023, following Margot Robbie’s Barbie after being expelled from Barbieland.

The storyline of Rise of the Beasts

Set during 1994, Rise of the Beasts follows two archeologists as they come into contact with three factions of Transformers — the Maximals, the Predacons and the Terrorcons. Anthony Ramos, Dominique Fishback, Luna Lauren Vélez and Tobe Nwigwe spearhead the human cast while Peter Cullen, Ron Perlman, Michelle Yeoh, Pete Davidson, Peter Dinklage, Liza Koshy, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Cristo Fernández, Tobe Nwigwe and David Sobolov voice various members of the Transformers.

Rise of the Beasts is the seventh installment in the live-action Transformers series, which kicked off in 2007. The first six movies have grossed a total of $4.8 billion at the worldwide box office.
