As the Multiverse Saga draws to a close, it seems as though Hayley Atwell is the actress being elevated as the face of the Multiverse in the MCU. This is a double-edged sword. On one hand, Captain Carter is a very obvious variant that’s easy to explain to audiences in Avengers: Doomsday. On the other hand, the failure of the Multiverse Saga in the eyes of fans has essentially kneecapped the character into seeming forced into every project instead of a fun, overarching cameo.
And it seems as though Avengers: Doomsday won’t be helping that perception in the slightest. A rumor from Hollywood insider DanielRPK reveals that Hayley Atwell will have the biggest role she’s ever had in an Avengers film when she makes her return later this year. Given she’s set to play multiple variants of Peggy Carter, likely including the multiversal Captain Carter, it’s not a rumor that deserves too much scrutiny.
Hayley Atwell’s Role In Avengers: Doomsday
The rumor mill has painted a mostly incomplete picture of Hayley Atwell’s role in Avengers: Doomsday. It’s all but confirmed that Steve Rogers, traveling back in time for her, will play a pivotal role in the conflict. Though given multiple versions of Peggy Carter are set to appear, very little of her actual storyline has been revealed.
It’s also important to note that this rumor does not have a high bar to clear. Hayley Atwell has mainly played a role in the Captain America franchise. Peggy Carter has only appeared as a glorified cameo in the Avengers films. So, as long as she gets more than half a dozen lines, she’ll have her “biggest role” by the time Avengers: Doomsday rolls around.
