HBO Max’s ‘Dune: The Sisterhood’ Officially Begins Filming

Dune: The Sisterhood HBO Max

The HBO Max series Dune: The Sisterhood is now filming.

Dune: The Sisterhood director Johan Renck has revealed that production on the highly-anticipated HBO Max series is officially underway. The show’s production is based at Origo Studios in Budapest, Hungary, a location that was also used for next year’s Dune: Part Two. Check out Renck’s Instagram post announcing the news below.

Interestingly, Renck tagged Gizem Kling Erdogan and Mark Strong on his Instagram post, indicating that the two have joined the cast of Dune: The Sisterhood. The series also stars Emily Watson, Shirley Henderson, Indira Varma, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Faoileann Cunningham, Aoife Hinds, Chloe Lea and Travis Fimmel.

Diane Ademu-John is credited as the creator, writer, co-showrunner and executive producer of Dune: The Sisterhood while Alison Schapker is serving as co-showrunner and executive producer on the HBO Max project. Renck is directing the first two episodes of the series.

Denis Villeneuve, Jon Spaihts, Scott Z. Burns, Matthew King, John Cameron, Cait Collins and Brian Herbert are executive producers on Dune: The Sisterhood. Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert are also on board as executive producers, overseeing the project for the Frank Herbert estate. Author Kevin J. Anderson is a co-producer.

The Sisterhood is set 10,000 years before the events of Dune and explores the origins of the Bene Gesserit. A joint venture between Warner Bros. and Legendary, Dune is based on the 1965 novel of the same name by Frank Herbert. The movie opened in theaters in October 2018 and earned $401.8 million at the worldwide box office, along with six Oscars during the 94th Academy Awards.

A Dune sequel is also on the way

The official Dune: Part Two synopsis reads as follows: “This follow-up film will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.”

The Dune sequel cast includes Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Charlotte Rampling, Javier Bardem, Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux and Souheila Yacoub.
