HBO’s ‘Watchmen’, ‘Stranger Things’ Among Peabody Awards Winners

The Peabody Awards announced on Wednesday its full line-up of winners which includes HBO’s Watchmen and Netflix’s Stranger Things.

The 2020 Peabody Awards unveiled this year’s 30 winners which were selected as being “the most compelling and empowering stories released in broadcasting and digital media during 2019.” Both The Simpsons and Frontline received the top honor with the institutional award. Among the winners was also HBO’s first-ever superhero series Watchmen, which explored themes of social injustice, as well as Netflix’s smash-hit science fiction horror series Stranger Things.

“This is an incredible honor and the company we find ourselves in is inspiring, to say the least,” Stranger Things executive producers The Duffer Brothers told Variety.

While a second season of HBO’s Watchmen does not appear to be in the cards for executive producer Damon Lindelof, Stranger Things 4 is in the works at Netflix. The fourth season of the popular series had completed principal photography for two episodes of Stranger Things 4 before production was forced to a halt due to the Coronavirus pandemic. When the series will be able to resume production remains unclear.
