Hellboy is back, baby! The first trailer for the upcoming reboot titled Hellboy: The Crooked Man takes the iconic franchises in a much darker direction.
Hellboy is one of the most beloved franchises in the superhero genre, with the first two films starring Ron Perlman being regarded as some of the best action flicks on the scene. While the franchise stumbled a bit with its last reboot starring David Harbour, it seems to be taking a whole new direction with Hellboy: The Crooked Man.
Taking a step away from the high-budget world of Hollywood, Hellboy: The Crooked Man is meant to be an R-rated reset on the iconic franchise. This is in an attempt to bring the franchise back to its roots in folk horror, instead of the apocalyptic stakes popularized by the most recent incarnations of the character.
Hellboy Finds Himself In A Whole New World
Hellboy fans will immediately sense something different with this first trailer for the reboot. Instead of trying to evoke thoughts of the old films, Hellboy: The Crooked Man takes cues from some of the biggest horror hits of the past decade like The Witch as the titular hero makes their way through the mountains of Appalachia.
Hellboy: The Crooked Man also introduces a much younger take on the titular demonic hero. Jack Kesy plays Hellboy in the reboot. While some fans have appreciated the different direction this trailer took the series, others complain about its cheaper feel, especially when it comes to Kesy’s makeup. However, when it comes to films like this, fans only remember their complaints if the film fails!
