Henry Cavill outlined what he would like to explore in a future Superman film.

Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel introduced a relatively more somber and serious take on Superman than fans were used to, with Henry Cavill portraying this modern version of the classic DC hero. While Henry Cavill reprised the role in Batman v Superman and Justice League, a number of fans are still hoping to see the actor return for a proper sequel to Man of Steel.

Of course, Henry Cavill’s future as Superman is currently in question, with reports suggesting Warner Bros. is struggling to figure out a way to tell a story with the DC hero that can resonate with modern audiences. However, Henry Cavill has a few ideas on what he would like to explore in a future Superman film and detailed his hopes for the character during an interview with Entertainment Tonight:

“I’d like to delve more into the aspect of Superman [that] we traditionally know, coupled with where we left him with Man of Steel. It’s the hero who is trying to exist in a world where people may say he’s not relevant anymore — where, actually, he’s extraordinarily relevant and it’s him coming to terms with that and becoming that relevance and showing people that hope does exist without it being too chocolate box.”

Henry Cavill added that he still wanted Superman to retain the “edge” he had in Man of Steel but with “some warmth to it and to have some hope to it.”

Henry Cavill most recently portrayed Superman in Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J. K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.

Justice League is now available on Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital HD.
